Carlo Crocco left being part of the Italian Binda Group in 1976 to pursue a new watch company. He moved to Switzerland and started to design the watch that he called Hublot, a French word for the porthole. The timepiece he formed was the first rubber strap in the history of the watch industry.
To create the strap, it took 3 years of research. Although on the first day of its debut at the Basel Watch Fair in 1980, one potential customer failed to see its significance, the watch quickly became a trade success with sales of over $2 million in its first year.
The brand’s timepieces signify unquestioned power, glamour, and even societal status. These qualities are not even worth arguing. The brand is said to be like the Bugatti’s of the wristwatch world. There are a few things, however, that many people may not know about Hublot.
